After being a great place to live for over 37 years, the cooperative are rebuilding after the earthquake. The group is building a new pocket neighbourhood, purpose-designed to optimise community interaction.
Sited centrally, just up from the river and the Margaret Mahy playground, the residents can be relatively car-free, and simply stroll down to town events, or take a scooter. A large courtyard provides a country feel within the city.
The new pocket neighbourhood has 15 dwellings clustered around a large common courtyard, with plenty of meeting points. It includes a common house/education centre, with a common lounge, kids, study and education room. There is an adjoining section for parking.
House sizes include one 4 bedroom, four 3 bedrooms, five 2 bedrooms, two one bedrooms, two studios, and one tiny house.
The building starts mid January 2019, with completion planned for Christmas 2019.
