Cornerstone Cohousing was Initiated in September 2017 by nine people, who wanted to be able to choose an independent, yet connected environment for them to “age in place”.
The initial group developed the foundational structure for the project and opened it to the public via an information afternoon in February 2019.
The intention is to have the community situated in a relatively central Auckland area such as Mt Albert, to make best use of public transport and services.
Cornerstone is focussing on ages 55 up.
The development is to include
- Three level apartment building holding
- 25 individually owned dwellings
- Shared dining/lounge area
- Rooftop area with a smaller lounge
- Communal garden area.
Cornerstone is working with HLC to identify land suitable for a build, possibly in the Owairaka area and intend to partner with a builder/developer to purchase and develop.
The group is yet to aquire a site and are open for expressions of interest.
