Brookside Featherston is a sustainable, community based village concept of small and tiny houses that is underway. The land has been purchased and a Resource Consent submitted to council.
The aim of the Brookside developments is to create high amenity, affordable and sustainable lifestyle environments for 50-150+ families that integrate with and enhance the existing community.
Growing food, supporting social contacts, strengthening art and culture are also part of the vision for each of the villages.
Small and tiny houses 110-35m2 are the focus of the developments with shared facilities to minimise the private house size needed by the residents.
Productive food gardens are a distinctive feature of our vision and include espaliered fruit trees, linear herb and vegetable gardens along paths, permaculture, and food forests.
Other onsite features may include: composting and recycling facilities, community BBQs, and public art. The scope is only limited by the vision and energy of the residents and their friends.
This is a repeatable model: Brookside has similar developments in preparation for Nelson and the Sunshine Coast, South-East Queensland.
